Luca James Verno is the tiny face of 2019 at Bristol Hospital.

Luca was born at 4:44 a.m. Tuesday in the hospital’s Families Are First Birthing Center. He is the son of Amber and Eric Verno of Bristol, weighing 8 pounds, 8 ounces, and measuring 21 inches long.

Eric is a state trooper and Amber works for an IT staffing company in Farmington.

Luca is their second child, joining his 18-month-old brother, Liam.

Amber Verno said she didn’t expect her new son to be the first baby of the year. She was scheduled to have labor induced on Jan. 2, but Luca decided on his own to show up early.

So far Luca is not like his big brother, she said. “His brother never took a pacifier ever, and he was eating much better than this one is. Luca has just been a little bit more difficult to feed than his brother.”

Liam had a short visit with his new sibling on New Year’s Day.

“They’re going to be good buddies,” said Eric Verno. “He gave him a kiss.”

“But then he did get a little bit jealous afterward,” Mom noted.

“We’re all excited,” the proud father added. “Everybody is healthy, so everything is great.”
