COVID-19 Testing

Because the coronavirus is so new, testing for the virus is rapidly evolving as doctors and researchers learn more about the disease. In general, COVID-19 tests available at various hospitals including our Specimen Collection Station, outpatient facilities and retail locations include:

Effective Tuesday, May 19, Bristol Health will be changing the hours of its COVID-19 Specimen Collection Station which is adjacent to the Queen Street entrance of Bristol Hospital. Click here for new hours.

Currently, our turnaround time for results is:
PCR (swab) Test: 24-48 hours

Specimen Collection Station

To facilitate testing for COVID-19, Bristol Health is operating a Coronavirus Specimen Collection site on the campus of Bristol Hospital. The site location is set up in the parking lot adjacent to 145 Queen St.

HOURS

Effective May 19:
Monday – Thursday
• 7:30 – 9:30 am: Specimen collection for Bristol Health pre-op patients and health care workers only
• 10 am – 3 pm: Specimen collection station open to the general public

Friday
• 7:30 am – 3 pm: Specimen collection station open to the general public

Saturday:
• 7:30 – 10:30 am: Specimen collection station open to the general public
• 10:30 am – noon: Specimen collection for Bristol Health pre-op patients only

Who Can Be Tested

Please contact your primary care provider if you feel ill or are experiencing flu-like symptoms. You must have a lab work order from your provider to get swabbed at our Specimen Collection stations.
 

What You Need to Bring to Get Tested

  • Valid photo ID
  • Your lab order obtained from your provider
  • Your insurance card



The Specimen Collection Process



This is a specimen collection facility. Once you are swabbed, your specimen will be sent to a reference lab. You will need to obtain the results from your provider. While at the specimen collection site, you must:

  • Remain in your vehicle at all times with the windows up unless instructed otherwise
  • Follow the specific instructions of the screener
