Parent and Child: Development and Discipline Series

The Child Development and Discipline Series will discuss why it is important to stay in touch with your elementary school age child’s thoughts and feelings, and teach positive parenting techniques that encourage children to talk, as well as to listen. This workshop will include information on proper nutrition, setting limits and disciplining schoolaged children. We will discuss teaching children to think before they act (responsibility), to accept accountability for their mistakes, and to work together with other people (cooperation). A discussion of routines and structure to encourage desirable behavior will be reviewed. This series will also focus on common causes of childhood anger, and the impact of a child’s emotional, social and intellectual development on his ability to manage his actions. Together, we will brainstorm strategies to help children learn to express anger in more socially appropriate ways.
