When Should You See a Gynecologist?

We recommend visiting the gynecologist for a screening annually, but also any time you have a concern relating to pelvic, vulvar and vaginal pain or if experiencing abnormal bleeding from the uterus. Some common signs you should not wait for your annual exam to see a gynecologist include, but are not limited to:

  • Issues related to pregnancy
  • Urinary and fecal incontinence
  • Burning sensation when urinating
  • Severe menstrual cramps or pelvic pain
  • Extra heavy period
  • Period lasts more than a week
  • Change in regularity of your period
  • If you think you may be pregnant
  • You believe you've been exposed to an STD
  • You've had non-consensual sex
