Letter to the Community Regarding the Coronavirus

By Kurt A. Barwis, FACHE

March 13, 2020

Dear Community Members:

In the spirit of our mission, Caring Today for Your Tomorrow, we want to assure you that Bristol Health is doing the utmost to protect the health and safety of our patients, staff and community during this coronavirus public health crisis.

We have mobilized a large and experienced team to direct our response and ensure we are prepared to care for our community.

First and foremost, we have implemented visitor restrictions to protect our patients and residents of our nursing facilities. Limiting visitors is in the best interest of patient care. We have also canceled or postponed community events as this is a key way to limit the spread of the new virus.

We know that many of you have questions, so we have set up a dedicated hotline where we will provide the latest updates and information on our coronavirus response. The hotline number is 860.261.6855.

Starting today, March 13, we will have two specimen collection stations on our Bristol Hospital campus for patients who have been screened by their primary care providers and have laboratory orders to be tested. Once collected, specimens will be sent to a reference laboratory for testing and patients will obtain results from their providers.

The stations will operate 7 days a week from 8am-4pm. However, hours of operation are based on the availability of specimen collection supplies, so please call the hotline every day to confirm if our testing facility is open. You can also find information on our website: bristolhealth.org.

We are not certain how long this public health crisis will last or what other accommodations we will need to make, so please check our website frequently.

Thank you for entrusting us with your care. Our entire team is working to keep you safe.

Sincerely,

Kurt A. Barwis, FACHE
