Wellness Starts Here

Primary Care

Our providers are experts in diagnosing and treating common illnesses, managing chronic conditions and working with you to maximize good health through preventative care and wellness.

Primary Care: Your Road to Good Health

The best way to stay healthy is to get routine screenings and recommended tests, eat healthy foods and stay active and to treat illness before it develops into something more complex. Your partner in this journey is your primary care provider, who can help you manage your health by:

  • Helping to prevent, detect and treat illness
  • Conducting wellness screenings
  • Addressing your health concerns
  • Determining if you need specialized care

At Bristol Health, our primary care providers collaborate with you, with each other, and with our entire staff to ensure you live your healthiest life.

Who Is a Primary Care Provider?

Because primary care is the first line of care and spans your entire life, there are different types of providers who offer primary care, including physicians, nurse practitioners and advanced practice registered nurses.

Primary care specialists are typically trained in internal medicine or family medicine and can specialize in treating adults, children or both. Pediatricians are providers who specialize in primary care for children. Since gender, age and health conditions can impact care, some patients consider their obstetricians, cardiologists or geriatric specialists to be their primary care providers.

Treating Chronic Conditions

One of the most common things primary care providers do is to help patients manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma or heart disease. Treatment of chronic conditions can be complex and ongoing. Patients may have more than one chronic condition and may be seeing multiple providers, and primary care providers help coordinate the overall approach. .

At Bristol Health, our providers are experts in helping you manage your overall health, including chronic conditions. Bristol Health Medical Group is nationally recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home by the National Committee on Quality Assurance. This model of care emphasizes putting patient needs at the center, collaboration among providers and continuous quality improvement.

Take the first step to quit smoking today

Perhaps the most rewarding part of being a respiratory therapist is helping people to quit smoking. Day in and day out respiratory therapists, nurses and other clinicians see the tragic effects of cigarette addiction. Being a part of helping to eliminate or alleviate all that suffering is a wonderful experience. Like most health care providers who continually see the immediate and long-term benefits when someone stops smoking, I can’t help but want to share the good news of those benefits.
