The Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness at Bristol Hospital provides comprehensive services, advanced screenings, diagnostics and patient support while always keeping your comfort and privacy in mind.
Our services include:
Bone Density Testing
Bone densitometry safely, accurately and painlessly measures bone density using a bone density scan (DXA) Unlike typical x-ray machines, radiation exposure during bone densitometry is extremely low. The entire process takes only minutes to complete. It invloves no injection or invasive procedures.
3D Mammography
Advanced 3D mammography provides physicians with more detailed images of your breast for the most accurate diagnoses. Studies show that 3d mammography offers improved clarity and cancer detection, especially in women with dense breast tissue.
Diagnostic Mammography
Our digital mammography services include computer-aided detection, which can catch breast cancers earlier than ever before.
Breast-specific Ultrasound and MRI Studies
Breast ultrasound uses sound waves to help doctors determine whether an abnormality is cancerous. Breast MRIs provide more detailed images of breasts. Women with dense breasts may benefit from a breast MRI in addition to mammography.
On-site Stereotactic
A sterotactic breast biopsy is a procedure where breast tissue is removed using X-ray assistance. The X-ray pictures taken with the computer, aid the physician in locating the exact area to be removed.
Ultrasound-guided Biopsies
A breast biopsy is a procedure where breast tissue is removed using ultrasound assistance. Ultrasound uses sound waves at very high frequency to outline the abnormal area of the breast. The ultrasound pictures taken with the computer, aid the physician in locating the exact area to be removed. Ultrasound-guided biopsy requires no exposure to x-ray.
Preoperative needle localization
If you are having a surgical biopsy, imaging technology may be used before the procedure to help guide surgeons to the breast abnormality. Before your procedure, a radiologist will take an image of your breast, numb the area and then guide a needle and wire to the abnormality. The wire stays in place until the abnormality is removed during surgical biopsy.
Lymphoscintigraphy
Also called sentinel node mapping, this imaging procedure uses a specialized dye to see which lymph nodes may be affected by breast cancer cells.
