Beekley Center for Breast Health & Wellness

Breast Cancer Risk Assessment And Management Program

The breast cancer risk assessment at mammography is a complementary service and is at no cost to you.

Our Breast Cancer Risk Assesment is Preventative Care Tailored For You

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. It is estimated that one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Each woman’s risk of developing breast cancer is different and depends on her personal and family health history, lifestyle and other factors.

The Breast Cancer Risk Assessment and Management program at Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness helps women learn if they are at a higher than average risk for breast cancer.  If you have a personal and/or family history of one or more of the following, you may be at higher than average risk:
  • Breast cancer diagnosed before age 50
  • Family history of breast cancer
  • Breast and ovarian cancer in the same individual or the same side of the family
  • Male breast cancer in your family
  • Breast cancer in both breasts
  • Triple negative breast cancer
  • Eastern European Jewish ancestry

Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness offers a computerized, automated breast cancer risk assessment during your mammogram that will estimate your individual lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. The risk assessment is based on information you provide including your age, race, personal medical history and your family’s history of cancer.  The breast cancer risk assessment at mammography is a complementary service and is at no cost to you.  If you are identified as being at high risk, our Nurse Navigator will contact you for a referral to our Breast Cancer Risk Assessment and Management Program which offers peace of mind for women at increased risk for breast cancer. Beekley Center offers a breast surgeon and radiologists in the field who provide individualized recommendations for prevention and surveillance to women at increased risk.

Our Breast Cancer Risk Assessment and Management Program provides:

  • A consultation with our breast surgeon to review family and medical histories, previous medical imaging and, if applicable, a clinical breast exam
  • A review of personal health history and risk factors
  • A detailed family cancer history review
  • A risk assessment to help determine a personalized risk for cancer
  • Genetic counseling and testing, if indicated, to detect inherited risk factors in genes linked to hereditary breast cancer
  • Health education on topics such as enhanced breast screenings, self-breast exams, medical and surgical management, and lifestyle modifications
  • Long-term follow-up care by following patients for their ongoing breast health needs every six months to a year as determined by their individual needs
