Bristol Hospital and Health Care Group honored Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman with a Hospital Champion award Tuesday morning for her tireless advocacy and support of not only Bristol Hospital but all the hospitals in Connecticut.

Upon arriving for the breakfast ceremony, Lt. Gov. Wyman was greeted in the hospital lobby by dozens of employees who were applauding and holding a large “Thank You Nancy,” banner. The Hospital Champion Awards are given by Bristol Hospital to local and state officials as well community and business leaders for their unwavering support of the hospital and its mission of providing safe and quality care to residents throughout Greater Bristol.

“Over the past eight years, Nancy has been an incredible advocate for health care in the state of Connecticut,” said Kurt A. Barwis, FACHE, president and CEO of Bristol Hospital and Health Care Group. “She’s not afraid to get into a situation and exert leadership—she brings people who are potentially the other side of the table and she has a way about her that builds a consensus and uniquely makes people walk away feeling good about themselves.”

Barwis is a member of the Lt. Governor’s Health Care Cabinet which was established to advise Governor Dannel P. Malloy, and the Office of Health Reform and Innovation on issues related to federal health reform implementation and development of an integrated health care system for Connecticut. Lt. Governor Wyman chairs the Health Care Cabinet. She also played a vital role in for the formation of the State Office of Health Strategy.
