BRISTOL, Conn.--The Bristol Hospital Multi-Specialty Group has added another neurologist to its roster with the appointment of Kateryna Kurako, MD. Dr. Kurako sees patients at the Multi-Specialty Group office located at 61 Bradley St in Bristol.

Dr. Kurako comes to Bristol Hospital from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where she recently completed her neuromuscular fellowship. She completed her neurology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Weston, FL, and received her medical degree from Dnepropetrovsk Medical Academy in the Ukraine.

“The interview process for this position was amazing,” Dr. Kurako said. “I have never had such a warm welcome. This is why I like smaller hospitals like Bristol—it’s a family-oriented environment where quality patient care comes first.”

Dr. Kurako is the second neurologist to join the Bristol Hospital Multi-Specialty Group. Neurologist Cara Pittari, MD, joined the group in 2014.

“Community need drives our recruiting efforts and we have seen tremendous growth in our neurology practice since Dr. Pittari came to Bristol,” said Edward Henry, MHA, executive director of the Bristol Hospital Multi-Specialty Group. “Dr. Kurako brings a wealth of expertise to the Bristol community, especially with her experience in treating stroke and neuromuscular diseases.”

Dr. Kurako’s areas of interest include the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular diseases including ALS, spinal muscular atrophy and muscular dystrophy, muscular movement disorders and stroke care. She also is experienced in the areas of electromyography (EMG) and Botox injection.

“Cleveland Clinic in Florida was a smaller hospital structure that really pushed me for the future and I am looking forward to bringing that experience here to Bristol,” Dr. Kurako said. “I thrive on caring for stroke patients, as well as those with epilepsy. I also want to better educate patients on the benefits of such treatments as EMG, which can be a very intimidating experience.”
