Bristol Hospital will have a number of interesting things for patrons to try during the 34th annual Bristol Home and Business Show.

“We’re always proud to be a partner with the chamber,” said Chris Boyle, hospital spokesman. “We have a great working relationship.”

“We’ll have numerous giveaways,” he added.

During the home and business show, Bristol Hospital will offer free blood pressure testing to guests and the pulse oximetry test — which is used to measure the oxygen level in blood.

The hospital will also be offering free flu shots from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, while supplies last. This is expected to be a very popular draw.

“I stress anyone who’s interested to get there early,” Boyle said.

Boyle also said patrons should be interested to hear from Dr. Peter Bellezza, who will give a presentation on an Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT) device — a form of shockwave therapy — and do free demonstrations.

“It’s for anyone who experiences foot and ankle pain,” Boyle said.

“We’re very lucky to have Dr. Bellezza,” he continued. “He’s very active in the community.”

According to an article written by Bellezza, EPAT treatment is a non-invasive treatment for musculoskeletal pain. This new shockwave therapy technology utilizes pressure waves.

“This is a very effective treatment in which pressure waves stimulate metabolism, enhance blood circulation and accelerate the healing process,” Bellezza wrote. “These pressure waves help regenerate and heal damaged tissue.”

“Shockwave therapy is for those who are experiencing chronic musculoskeletal pain that impairs mobility or quality of life,” Bellezza continued. “We use it to treat pain of the foot, ankle and heel.”

The treatment takes between five to 10 minutes. Although Bellezza has had some patients report feeling immediate relief, the effects are generally felt after three treatments and up to four weeks later.

The treatment does not require anesthesia and there is no risk of infection or scarring. The demonstrations are scheduled to take place on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the home and business show.
