Weight Loss Surgery Procedures

When considering which surgical procedure may be best suited for you, consider how each will impact your body and lifestyle. You should also think about what you will need to do to maximize the opportunity to take control of your weight and health. When considering your choices, it may be helpful to weigh the pros and cons of each procedure before deciding which surgery may best fit your goals. The path to success begins with understanding your options.

Bariatric surgical procedures are performed to decrease the size of the stomach and aide in weight loss.  Weight loss surgeries are divided into two types of procedures:

  • Restrictive procedures such as the lap-band, or the sleeve gastrectomy, work by decreasing stomach size therefore reducing the amount of food intake and promoting a feeling of fullness with a small amount of food intake.
  • Malabsorptive procedures, such as the gastric bypass, have the same restrictive effect as the above, but also add an effect of reduced absorption in the body of calories, proteins, and other nutrients.

The Procedures

Robotic/Laparoscopic Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy
Robotic/Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
Robotic/Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding
